Meher Malik, the renowned belly dancing exponent in India, recently shared a heartfelt note about her daughter's first Diwali. This special occasion marked a significant moment for their family, as they aimed to set a sustainable tone for her daughter's future.
Instead of the usual extravagant decorations and shopping sprees, Meher and her family opted for a more sustainable Diwali. They skipped the lights, refrained from unnecessary purchases, and focused on simplicity and meaningful connections.
By embracing a simple, sweet, and sustainable Diwali, Meher aimed to instill these values in her daughter, Aroha. They prioritized meaningful experiences over material possessions, emphasizing the importance of mindful living and environmental consciousness.
Meher's belief in simplicity and a deep respect for the planet made her our eco inspiration. Here is the note from her:
This diwali was RoRo’s first , making it even more special for us. Every diwali is different but few things stay the same - my rangoli, lighting the diyas and being with the people I truly love. This diwali was a bit different , setting the tone for how we want Aroha to lead her life - we didnt use lights, no shopping, said no to things we didnt need but some special people made this the simple, sweet, sustainable diwali we hope to always have.
